Does your skin show the effects of sun damage, with blemishes, rough patches or light scarring? Microdermabrasion may be right for you. During this treatment, a minimally abrasive instrument gently “sands” your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layers of skin, exposing softer layers beneath.
Microdermabrasion is one of several spa-like treatments offered by a licensed aesthetician.
REASONS for Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion can thicken your collagen, resulting in a younger looking complexion.
You may be a candidate for microdermabrasion if you want to:
- Diminish age spots and black heads.
- Lessen the appearance of hyperpigmentation (darker skin areas).
- Exfoliate your skin.
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
- Reduce or eliminate enlarged pores.
- Treat acne and the scars that acne can leave behind.
Microdermabrasion is performed by Dr. Tepper’s aesthetician. She uses a diamond-tipped wand to remove the top skin layer (epidermis) and stimulate new growth.
Each treatment lasts about a half an hour. You may experience a scratching or vibrating feeling. The procedure is very well tolerated. Patients may begin with two treatments per month until the desired effect, and then transfer to a maintenance plan.
RECOVERY from Microdermabrasion
One of the great benefits of microdermabrasion is that there is no down time or recovery period required following the treatment. The skin may be sensitive or slightly sore afterwards, but such should resolve within a few hours. Dryness may persist for a few days.
