Thigh Lift

Thigh lift surgery is an excellent body contouring option for patients who seek improvement in the thighs. Are you embarrassed to wear short clothing because of loose skin or wrinkles? Maybe you’re not as active as you wish. Perhaps it might be time to consider a thigh lift.

Your thighs can be affected by the aging process, just like other parts of the body. Weight loss may compound the issue. The skin may sag or appear loose and wrinkled. It may seem as though you have areas with too much fat and other areas with too little volume. Thigh lift surgery can help.

You may be a good candidate for thigh lift surgery if:

  • You have loose skin of the inner thighs
  • You recently lost a lot of weight
  • You are in relatively good healthy
  • You aren’t afflicted with diabetes, vascular disease, venous disease or other serious ailments.

About Thigh Lifts

During your consultation with Dr. Richard Tepper, you will have an opportunity to discuss your concerns, and learn about how this procedure can offer improvements in your appearance.

Incisions may be placed in the groin region and may extend into the area between your inner thighs. In some patients, it is more advantageous to place up-and-down scars along the inner thighs. Areas of excess fatty tissue may be treated with liposuction, including the outer thighs, hips or any other area of concern. Loose skin is also excised. The deeper tissue layer, or fascia, is sutured, creating a tighter, or “lifted”, effect. The skin is sutured closed. Drains may be used, as well as gentle compression bandages.

If you chose to combine your thigh lift with liposuction, the results can be very appealing. In this case, we remove excess skin and fat to reveal shapely, firm thighs. If desired, the fat that is removed can be graft into the buttock or breast to help augment those areas.

Thigh lift surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. Patients usually go home the same day, but if the surgery is more extensive, an overnight stay may be recommended. Compression garments are worn for several weeks.

Dr. Tepper will prescribe antibiotics and pain medication for several days after the surgery. Patients may shower within 2-3 days and can walk around immediately. Most people resume driving sometime in the second week after surgery, and resume work activities shortly thereafter. There is always some variation in those estimates, depending on the individual circumstances.

Surgery always carries some degree of risk. Dr. Tepper will be glad to answer all of your questions, and discuss topics such as wound healing, infection risk, blood clot formation, sensory changes, hematoma formation, and scarring. This list is not inclusive, and you are encouraged to ask as many questions as needed so you’re comfortable with the plan. As with any cosmetic procedure, some patients may require, or desire, revision surgery in the future.
